From
mortal to star
November 26, 2001
How
do the stars come out looking so good on Star Awards night? We go
sneaking backstage and bring you this exclusive look at what goes
on before the curtain goes up.

You
saw them with their million dollar looks and stunning smiles.
But
there's actually a fair bit going on behind the cameras that you
never knew about, a side of celebrities that the public seldom gets
to see.
We
bring you on a secret peek trip on this year's Star Awards and the
few hours just before, when the stars go from just looking good
to super glam!
·
The hits and misses at Star Awards 2001
2.00pm,
Dry-run for the night
The celebs start trooping in as early as 2 in the afternoon to test
the catwalk and say hello to partners they will be making their
entrance for the big night with.
Without
the lights and the classy clothes, the stage looks nothing like
the glamorous runway it is to become in a few hours time. Come 7.30pm
however, the place is totally transformed into a fairyland stage.
2.30pm,
Make-up & hair
The next stop is to fix the hair and make-up.
Scores
of actors and actresses rotate between creative make-up artists
of MediaCorp's Make-Up team and patient hairstylists.
The
best forms of whiling away time and making the waiting in between
shorter are cracking jokes and teasing one another about who's going
to win later.
Stars
like Robin Leong, May Phua and Fiona Xie get their turn with Monsoon's
team while Jean Yip takes care of others like Edmund Chen and Huang
Wenyong.
Of
course, no hair affair is complete without celebrity crimper David
Gan and his Passion-ate assistants, who fuss over the likes
of Fann, Zoe, Cynthia and Jacelyn.
5pm,
Chow time!
With
rumbling tummies causing a rousing distraction, it's time for a
quick bite before going for the final fitting of their clothes for
the night.
By
6.30pm, everyone is ready and excited, chatting and teasing as they
prepare for their grand entrance.
And
when you see them glowing and looking so sophisticated on-screen
an hour later, you'll never guess you were looking at a whole day's
worth of work and preparation.
